The natural parks of Asturias. Paradises to enjoy

One of the great attractions that Asturias has are its natural spaces, some paradises in which to enjoy nature and spend some great days.
The main and best known of these spaces is the Picos de Europa National Park, where we can enjoy wonders such as the Lakes of Covadonga or the Naranjo de Bulnes, cities such as Cangas de Onís or take the fantastic Ruta del Cares.
But in Asturias we can also enjoy its Natural Parks. In this article we are going to see the most important ones so that you do not miss anything about the nature of Asturias.
The Natural Parks of Asturias
Sources of the Narcea, Degañas and Ibias
The Fuentes del Narcea Nature Park has the great honor of having the largest oak forest in all of Western Europe. This Natural Park also has some of the mature forests in the best state of conservation in the entire Iberian Peninsula, such as the Muniellos Forest.
In addition to all this impressive flora, it should be noted that it is the natural habitat of the Cantabrian brown bear, so if you visit the park it is more than likely that you will meet one.
The beautiful landscape that the park has is joined by the Narcea and Ibias rivers that begin their journey in this park.
Somiedo Park
Somiedo Natural Park is nature in its purest form. It is a privileged place that has a rugged landscape that goes from 400 meters to 2,200.
If the Somiedo Natural Park stands out for something, it is for its beautiful lakes, the Saliencia Lake and the Valle Lake. In addition to these lakes, we must also highlight its brañas such as Sousas, Mumián or Pornacal where we will find the teitos.
It is a very well protected natural area that was declared in the year 2000 as a Biosphere Reserve.
Ponga Natural Park
The Ponga Natural Park has a very complex relief. It is a park that has altitudes that range between 300 meters and 2,100 thanks to the Peña Ten.
This Natural Park has some of the most interesting peaks for those who enjoy mountaineering such as the Maciédome of 1,899 meters, the Campigüeños with 1,838 or the Tiatordos with 1,951, among others.
Throughout this Natural Park you can also find the most important rivers such as the Sella River, as well as the Ponga that gives the park its name.
Redes Natural Park
The Redes Natural Park stands out for its contrasts that are manifested in a large number of completely different landscapes.
In this Natural Park of Redes you can even observe from formations of glacial origin to wide fields of pasture and cultivation, as well as karstic forms in several caves.
Another of the aspects that stand out in this Natural Park of networks are the limestone gorges that have been formed by the erosion caused by the Alba River. For the rest, in this Parque de Redes you can find a great variety in terms of fauna, from brown bears to wolves and capercaillies.
Natural Park of Las Ubiñas – La Mesa
Finally, the Natural Park of Las Ubiñas. This Natural Park stands out for its contrasting relief where we can find altitudes above 2,400 meters where the Pico del Fontan and Peña Ubiña stand out, as the name of the park.
The Natural Park of Las Ubiñas has a great variety of paths of all difficulties, which lovers of hiking will especially enjoy. Within its rich landscape, its forests of beech and chestnut trees stand out.
A Natural Park especially recommended for those who enjoy the towns in the mountains, for all the route that its paths entail.
