Do you want to know what to see in Zafra in one day? It is not the best-known city to see in Extremadura, but it is one of the most interesting thanks to all the monuments it has, especially the Palace of the Dukes of Feria, now converted into a Parador de Turismo.

Zafra is a small city of 17,000 inhabitants that can be visited in a very short time, so you will have no excuse not to go to this beautiful town in the province of Badajoz.

Its main monument is the Palacio de los Duques de Feria but it also has many other very interesting ones.

1. The Palace of the Dukes of Feria

What to see in Zafra - ParadorTo start our visit to Zafra we recommend going to the Palacio de los Duques de Feria if you have not stayed there, something we recommend.

It is the headquarters of the Parador de Turismo de Zafra and it is a spectacular building from the 14th century.

In addition to its beautiful and well-preserved towers, we can enjoy its central patio built in marble and where you can enjoy the tranquility of the Palace-Alcázar.

It is without a doubt the most famous monument to see in Zafra and that you should visit even if you do not stay in one of its fantastic rooms.

2. The Church of Candelaria

The town hall is in a building that although it is not particularly interesting from the outside, its patio is, and it can be freely visited.

Very close to the Town Hall is the most beautiful church in Zafra, the I glesia de la Candelaria, a spectacular Gothic church that you should not miss.

In it you can admire its main altarpiece, the organ and the paintings of the great painter Zurbarán.

3. The Plaza Chica, the Plaza Grande and surroundings

These are the famous Plaza Chica and Plaza Grande, wonderful arcaded squares, the best things to visit in Zafra.

The Plaza Chica is the oldest in the city and is linked to the Plaza Grande by the Arquillo del Pan where the image of the Virgen de la Esperancita is located.

There is also the famous Vara de Zafra that used to serve as a reference for merchants for their measurements.

In these squares you will find numerous bars and restaurants where you can enjoy the best of Zafra’s cuisine. From the Plaza Grande, we can take Calle Sevilla, the most commercial street in Zafra and where you can make as many purchases as you want because there are shops for all tastes.

It is also one of the busiest streets in the city and leads to one of the most modern squares in the town: the Plaza de España.

4. The Convent of Santa Clara de Zafra

Today we can visit the Santa Clara Convent Museum there, where in addition to admiring the beauty of its artistic heritage you can also learn about life in the convent.

In addition to all these monuments, you can also see the remains of its Arab wall, with the Arco de Jerez and the Arco del Cubo, as well as its different churches.
