Are you thinking of making a trip to this land and want to know the best things to see in Galicia in 5 days? Well here we are going to offer you a tour with which you will visit the most important. And it is that 5 days are very few to know Galicia.
We have organized two types of visits, one based in the province of La Coruña and another based in the province of Pontevedra. And as you will see, 5 days are enough for you to also visit the other two Galician provinces and even to make a mix between the two routes that we propose.
Here you have a car trip with the best things to visit in Galicia in five days. Due to the situation, we recommend that the base be located in Santiago de Compostela or Pontevedra.
What to see in Galicia in 5 days. Base in the province of La Coruña
First day. Santiago de Compostela
In the first of our 5-day trip to Galicia we can visit Santiago de Compostela, its capital, where, as we have told you before, you can establish the base to visit the rest thanks to its location and the options that this city offers you in the afternoons- nights when you return from your excursions.
To visit Santiago de Compostela in a very complete way you can do this free tour of Santiago.
Santiago de Compostela is, without a doubt, the most beautiful city in Galicia and also one of the most beautiful in Spain. Therefore, you cannot miss it if you want to visit Galicia in 5 days.
The main places of interest that you can visit in Santiago de Compostela are the Cathedral, and of course the streets and squares that surround it, such as the Plaza del Obradoiro, as well as the entire old town. One day gives you time to visit the most important, but since you will also have more time to establish your base here, you can get to know it in depth.
To find out the complete one-day itinerary, you can read our article about Santiago de Compostela in 1 day or take this guided tour of the city.
Second day. Visit La Coruna
We are going to dedicate the second of our 5 days to visit Galicia to the largest city in the province, La Coruña, a must-see destination for all visitors to this region and that will surely surprise and make you fall in love.
The best thing you can visit in Galicia in one day is the Tower of Hercules, the Plaza de María Pita or the Paseo Marítimo, as well as the old town, the Monte de San Pedro, the Aquarium and many other places.
We recommend that you read our article in which we tell you the best things to see in La Coruña in one day and if you want to get to know the city in a very special way, do this free tour of La Coruña.
If you have time after visiting this city, you can go to Porto de Santa Cruz, in Oleiros, where you will be surprised by its spectacular beach, or also to Ferrol, another very interesting but not essential city.
Third day in Galicia. the coast of death
We have reached the third of our 5 days in Galicia and it is time to go to the Costa da Morte, where the steepest Galician coasts and some of its most beautiful fishing villages are located.
Without a doubt, the Costa da Morte is an essential visit and it would not be difficult to do it if we establish the base in the province of Pontevedra and you are reading the next section of this article.
Visiting the Costa da Morte in one day is possible, although it would be best to have 2 days for it, since although you see that the distances are short, the travel times are long due to the winding roads.
And you also have many excursions to the Costa da Morte to get to know it in a very special way.
The one-day tour can take you from Muros to Camariñas, the most beautiful area, and where Carnota is located, with its hórreo and its beach, the Mirador de Ézaro, Fisterra, Muxía or Cape Vilán. Further north would be the Cemetery of the English, Laxe or Malpica, although as we have said in a day you will not have time for sure. If it’s your first time, do the first part of the tour.
Fourth day in Galicia
We arrived at the fourth of the 5 days in Galicia. Having the base in the province of La Coruña, it is best to visit the Rías Altas, especially the Costa Ártabra, which is the closest to Santiago de Compostela if you have established the base there.
Also keep in mind that the roads are winding and it will take you a long time, but you can take this excursion to the Playa de las Catedrales and take your worries away.
On the Ártabra Coast you can enjoy Cabo Ortegal, Estaca de Bares, Ortigueira, Cedeira and San Andrés de Teixidó, a magical place of traditional pilgrimage.
Of course you can also go further east and even reach Ribadeo, already in the province of Lugo, where the beautiful Playa de las Catedrales is located. Visiting Ferrol, if you have not done it on the day of La Coruña, may be another option for this fourth day in Galicia.
It will be difficult for you to have too much time, but if so, do not forget to make another visit in Santiago de Compostela, when you return, such as its parks or the City of Culture of Galicia.
What to do on the 5th day in Galicia from the province of La Coruña
The last of the 5 days to visit Galicia, from the province of La Coruña, we are going to leave it to your choice. Choose one of the days that we have prepared for you in the following block, visit Galicia in 5 days from the province of Pontevedra. You can also visit Orense or Lugo, very beautiful cities, which have great charm and are not very far away either.
Visit Galicia in 5 days. Base in the province of Pontevedra
First day. Pontevedra and Vigo
If you have established your base to visit Galicia in five days in the province of Pontevedra, preferably its capital, although Vigo, being a larger city, is also a good option, you can dedicate the first day to the 2 main cities of the province.
The one that we like the most is Pontevedra, whose main point of interest is the Cathedral, its historic quarter, its streets, its beautiful squares and all the corners to visit in Pontevedra. You can get to know this city perfectly in half a day since everything is close by.
After visiting Pontevedra you can go to Vigo, the largest city, with many places to visit but where everything is also relatively close. Its historic center is its main point of interest, although its modern part also hides charms that will surprise you.
Visiting Pontevedra and Vigo you already know the main cities of the province but you can also spend time visiting them the rest of the days if you have established your base there. To get to know both cities, we recommend you take a free tour of Pontevedra or a free tour of Vigo.
Second day in Galicia. the south of the region
On the second day of the best things to do in Galicia in 5 days, we can move to the south of the region, the closest part to Portugal although not too far away. If your base is in Santiago de Compostela and you have read the previous block, it will not catch you too far either.
The first of our destinations may be Tui, a small city but with a very beautiful old quarter in which its grandiose Cathedral stands out. Being located in the highest area you will have beautiful views of the city, the Miño River and Portugal.
Not far away is A Guarda, where you cannot go without visiting the Mount of Santa Tegra, located right at the mouth of the River Miño and from where you will have great views of it and the southern coast of Galicia. You can also visit the Celtic fort on the mountain.
From there you can continue north along the coast, discovering such beautiful places as the Monastery of Santa María de Oya, and finally Baiona, with its Parador de Turismo located in the Castillo de Monterreal, and the beautiful historic center of the city.
What to do the third day in Galicia. The Arousa estuary
In the third of our 5 days to visit Galicia we can visit the Ría de Arousa, one of the most beautiful to visit in Galicia and with numerous places of interest.
In the Ría de Arousa we have innumerable places to visit that will surprise you, such as Cambados, El Grove or A Lanzada Beach, considered one of the most beautiful in Galicia.
Further north we find Ribeira or the Corrubedo Dunes, another magical place that nature gives us in the province of Pontevedra.
To visit this estuary, and also learn more about the nearby estuaries, do not miss our article on the Rías Baixas, where we tell you the best things to visit in each of them.
We haven’t said it yet, but remember that the weather in Galicia is very changeable and all these plans can change on the fly, but still, even with rain it is a beautiful region.
What to visit on the fourth day in Galicia. The Rias of Pontevedra and Vigo
We arrive at the penultimate day of our five days in Galicia. We can dedicate this day to the Vigo and Pontevedra estuaries, other wonders of the Rías Baixas. The tour can start in Combarro, a place very close to Pontevedra and one of the most beautiful villages in Spain thanks to its granaries and stone crosses.
In Combarro we recommend visiting both its narrow streets and its beach, from where you will have the best views of the hórreos.
The next points of interest in the estuary are Raxó or Sansenxo, very touristic and sometimes crowded places thanks to their beautiful beaches. But if you want to enjoy the best beach in the world according to some lists, we recommend you go to the Cíes Islands, where Playa de Rodas is located.
You can only go to the Cíes Islands by boat and the visit will take a long time, so you could consider dedicating the fourth full day to them. They will not disappoint you as it is one of the most beautiful places to see in Galicia in five days.
What to do on the 5th day in Galicia from the province of Pontevedra
As we have recommended in the previous block, we are going to leave the last of the 5 days to visit Galicia to your choice. If you have the base in the province of Pontevedra on the last day, you can do one of those that we have recommended above, ruling out the Rías Altas unless you get up early enough and do not mind doing a good batch of kilometers.
You can also visit Orense or Lugo, which are not far away, and even go to Monforte de Lemos and take a tour of the Ribeira Sacra. If you decide on this last place, we recommend that you take this excursion through the Ribeira Sacra.
You can find more information about what to visit in Galicia on its official tourism page.
