Fifth Avenue in New York, the most expensive in the world
Fifth Avenue is perhaps the most famous street in the world and of course in New York.
It is undoubtedly one of the symbols of the economic power of the United States thanks to its mansions, its historic buildings, luxury apartments and, above all, the most exclusive stores of the main designers that make it the main shopping street in New York.
It has been listed several times as the most expensive street in the world due to the prohibitive price of its rents, especially the part of the avenue between 49th and 57th streets. But the street is much longer since it runs from Washington Square to the south. from Manhattan to Harlem, located north of Manhattan.
Fifth Avenue shops
If Fifth Avenue is famous for something, it is for its shops and shopping. There are stores of the main international franchises within reach of all pockets such as Zara or H&M.
And it is from 49th Street when we find the most exclusive stores on Fifth Avenue, including Cartier, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Armani, Abercrombie & Fitch or Victoria’s Secret, among others.
But there are three stores that stand out above the rest. They are located near Central Park and it is about Tiffany & Co, famous for being where Audrey Hepburn looked at the window in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”.
Another is FAO Schwarz, one of the most beautiful toy stores in the world not only for its stuffed animals and collections but also for having the piano where Tom Hanks danced in «Big»,
And finally we highlight the Apple store, recognizable by the glass cube where the entrance is located and where you can connect to the Internet for free.
The main monuments of Fifth Avenue
In addition to the famous shops, along Fifth Avenue we also find some of the most important buildings in the city.
In the southernmost part of Fifth Avenue we find Washington Square, where we can see the Arc de Triomphe dedicated to George Washington and a statue of Garibaldi.
A little further north is one of the most famous buildings in New York, the Flatiron Building, located at the intersection with Broadway and famous for its triangular shape. It is one of the most photographed buildings in New York.

Further north we find the Public Library, very famous for appearing in numerous films, notable for its façade and its beautiful reading rooms.
Next to it, Bryant Park, one of the most famous public parks in New York. It is surrounded by some of the most famous skyscrapers in the city.
St. Patrick ‘s Cathedral, the largest neo-Gothic cathedral in America, although its size seems smaller as it is located between large skyscrapers, is another of the buildings located on Fifth Avenue, already very close to Central Park.
But before reaching this park we have the Trump Tower, a 58-story skyscraper, and the Plaza Hotel, right in front of the Apple store and which is one of the most luxurious hotels in the city.
The museums of Fifth Avenue
Along the street we can find different New York museums such as the Metropolitan Museum, the Frick Collection or the City Museum.
In a nearby street there is also the MOMA and as a curiosity you also have the Sex Museum.
