Cambodian language
Cambodian or Khmer (ភាសាខ្មែរ) is spoken by almost the entire population. Unlike neighboring languages, Cambodian is not a tonal language. In addition, it has the longest alphabet in the world (it has 72 letters, 32 of them are vowels). It is used in all areas (administration, schools, media…).
The English language
English (English) is spoken by 24.8 % of Cambodians. It has been gaining popularity in recent decades, to the point that it is taught in different universities, and there are newspapers in this language. Road signs are in English (along with Cambodian). Also, English has replaced French on stamps and coins.

The French language
French (français) is spoken by 3% of the population. Most of its speakers are elderly people, since the country was part of colonial French Indochina. It is also used as a medium of instruction in some schools and universities that are funded by the French government. There are also newspapers and TV channels available in French. Cambodian French is sometimes used by the government, especially in court proceedings.
