The Great Sphinx of Gizah. Watching the Pyramids of Egypt

The Sphinx of Gizah is a grandiose sculpture located next to the most famous pyramids in Egypt, about 20 km from the center of Cairo.
It is therefore part of the great funerary complex of Gizah and is said to have been built in the 27th century BC.
Here we tell you the story of this impressive monument that is located next to the most famous Pyramids in the world and that are part of the visit to the esplanade where the Pyramids of Gizah are located.
Description of the Sphinx
The construction of the Great Sphinx was made by sculpting a limestone rock that was on the plateau.
Its dimensions are spectacular, measuring 20 meters in height with a face of 5 meters in diameter. Its length is 57 meters.
Currently it is simply a rock but originally the face and body were painted red and the nemes (outfit that covered the head of the pharaohs) was painted with yellow and blue stripes.
The Sphinx has undergone several restorations, some in Egyptian times and others since the last century to prevent the erosion suffered by the statue.
The monument, which has the body of a lion and a human head, does not have a nose or a beard and it is not known for sure who the head represents, although for years it was thought that it was Khafra, today that theory has lost force.
How to visit the Sphinx
To visit the Sphinx you have to go to Gizah. From the center of Cairo a taxi costs between 20 and 30 LE and there is no need to pay any entrance fee to be next to her.
